Forest fire forces evacuation of village in Turkey

(MENAFN) A forest fire erupted Friday in Kocaeli province, northwestern Türkiye, prompting the evacuation of a village as flames approached residential areas, according to reports.

The fire began around noon in the Karamursel district and quickly spread due to strong winds, leading authorities to evacuate residents of Akcat village. Images circulated by local media showed several homes destroyed or rendered uninhabitable.

Firefighting operations are ongoing, with six planes, 10 helicopters, 75 vehicles, and 200 personnel involved. Winds in the region are expected to reach 60–80 kilometers per hour until Saturday evening, with officials urging residents to remain cautious.

Kocaeli, along with nearby Canakkale and Bursa provinces, has faced multiple forest fires over the past month, fueled by extreme heat, low humidity, and strong winds.
