U.S., Australia Secure Spots in FIBA U19 Women's World Cup Final

(MENAFN) The United States and Australia secured their spots in the championship game of the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup by triumphing in their semifinal matches on Saturday in Brno, Czech Republic.

The U.S. team claimed their sixth consecutive win with a 70-58 victory over Spain. Building a 38-28 halftime lead, the American squad extended their dominance with a decisive 26-14 run in the third quarter. Spain mounted a late 16-6 comeback in the final period, but it fell short of overcoming the deficit.

Meanwhile, Australia defeated Canada 87-75 in the other semifinal clash. Australia edged ahead 22-20 in the first quarter and held the lead for the remainder of the game. Sitaya Fagan spearheaded Australia’s effort with 14 points and six rebounds. Canada’s Jasmine Bascoe delivered a game-high 29 points, supported by Avery Howell’s 20 points.

In the battle for rankings from ninth to twelfth place, China fell to Israel 84-79. Despite trailing for much of the game, China surged ahead 70-69 on a 9-0 run midway through the fourth quarter. The contest remained tight until Israel secured the win with a crucial four-point streak in the final minute.

China’s Liang Yaqi stood out with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists, while Li Yuqian added 21 points. Gal Raviv led Israel’s scoring with an impressive 38 points.

The championship final featuring the United States versus Australia is set for Sunday evening.
